THE CHARLIE HOTEL

West Hollywood, California
Previously owned by Charlie Chaplin, this hotel rich with celebrity history is a collection of private bungalows. As you walk through the classic metal gates, English garden landscaping surrounds the path. They feature a fountain and a communal fireplace. The relaxing atmosphere makes it a perfect city getaway; it feels more like a small village hidden in modern West Hollywood. No wonder celebrities have been using these cottages as an escape since 1924. Many Hollywood icons, from Marilyn Monroe to Robert Pattinson, have been guests over the years.

FREE SPIRIT SPHERES

British Columbia
You cannot help but look up in awe when visiting this grand forest on Vancouver Island. Each round treehouse lingers 3 to 4 meters off the ground hanging from three trees. Crafted from yellow cedar and Sitka Spruce, the spheres have a very natural look. The inside is fashioned from mahogany and teak with a window looking out into the Pacific Northwest forest. You can sleep up in the canopy swaying under the stars year-round.

SANTA BARBARA AUTO CAMP

Santa Barbara, California
Spend the night in a silver bullet with this retro ‘glamping’ experience. Located in Santa Barbara the AutoCamp is a short bike ride from the beach. The interior of each shiny silver Airstream camper features modern luxury amenities including locally roasted Handlebar coffee. Every stay comes with two beach cruisers, a BBQ, and a patio area. It is a perfect setting for lounging outside in the sun with a lemonade in hand while listening to food sizzling on the grill.

EAST BROTHER LIGHT STATION DINNER & B&B

San Rafael Bay, California
Sitting on an island in the San Rafael Bay is a nineteenth century lighthouse. The Coast Guard ferries over guests year-round and day visitors on Saturdays during the summer. The restored exterior of the B&B looks exactly as it did in 1873. Included with each stay is a four-course dinner with wine, breakfast, and a historical tour of the lighthouse. Stay on East Brother Island for a truly adventuresome B&B experience.

THORNEWOOD CASTLE

Tacoma, Washington
Feel like royalty when you check in to this century old castle. This official historical site is the only private castle on the west coast. The Tudor/Gothic castle has a beautiful lake front view. Inside, antique furnishings and medieval stained glass windows decorate the elegant rooms. Guests can enjoy their breakfast in the ball room, wander through the English garden, and relax on the summer porch. Visit and live like a King or Queen in luxury.

The West Coast has so many quirky accommodations. Whether you prefer to stay at a cozy Bed & Breakfast, camp in style, sleep in the trees, or become immersed in history, there is a unique experience for everyone. Embrace your dashing venturesome self and enjoy a sleep on the wild side.

Respectfully acknowledge that I am located in the Traditional Wəlastəkwiyik land. And that this area is on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq, respectively known as Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed with the British Crown in 1725, and then recognized and affirmed by Canada in section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982. The treaties did not surrender the territory and resources but in fact recognized Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. I pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land.
