Since becoming Canada’s first national park in 1887, Banff National Park has been a popular tourist destination. In the early days, visitors travelled on the Canadian Pacific Railway across the country to experience the wild western wilderness. These adventurers would trek through the Rockies during the day and relax in their log cabins by the fireside at night. The mountains offer a sense of wonder and excitement to anyone that visits.

Your Canadian Log Cabin

Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains and sitting at an elevation of 1708 m. (5624ft.) is where you will find Storm Mountain Lodge. The Lodge’s rich history dates back to 1922 when the original log lodge and six cabins were built as part of the Canadian Pacific Railway tourism initiative campaign. Here you will experience a truly historic rustic mountain getaway with modern amenities. Each cabin chases away the night’s chills with a wood-burning fireplace.

Hike, Relax, and Repeat

It is easy to relax and disconnect here with no distracting technology and access to over 60 kilometres of nearby trails. No matter what length of day hike you have planned, the Lodge can make a lunch for you to take on the trail. After a day of fresh mountain air, you can relax in the lodge’s lounge on a leather couch by the fire. It is the perfect place to play a board game, read a book, and sip on a cocktail or fresh-brewed beverage.

Cuisine Created with a Local Flair

You do not have to worry about fitting in time to cook meals during your mountain getaway. At the Lodge, they serve beautifully prepared Canadian cuisine. Their dishes feature locally sourced ingredients presented on the plate with artistic flair. Visitors with restricted diets will appreciate the many vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Every option on their menu is deliciously appealing to the eye and palate.

The Lodge Lounge invites guests to join them for locally roasted complimentary coffee and tea before breakfast is served. Once the kitchen starts for the day, guests are welcome to come in at their leisure. Morning breakfasts are peaceful as you watch the mountains come to life as the sun rises.

Mountain Views from the Top

The Rocky Mountains are beautiful, and the higher you get the more spectacular they become. There are many trails that will take you to the summit, but the fastest way to travel is on the Banff Gondola. This dependable mode of transportation has been taking guests to the top since 1959. Once there, head to the rooftop observation deck for the best view of the six surrounding mountain ranges. Afterwards, be sure to explore each level of the Upper Terminal. On level three you can take in the mountain views over a delicious meal at Northern Lights Café or Sky Bistro Restaurant. Then on level two learn about the park’s history and ecosystem at the Above Banff interactive exhibits.

This mountain getaway combines an adventurous journey, cozy cabin nights, and epic mountain views. Want to experience this modern spin on a rustic mountain adventure? Then visit Banff National Park and see the exceptional mountain ranges for yourself!

Respectfully acknowledge that I am located in the Traditional Wəlastəkwiyik land. And that this area is on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq, respectively known as Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed with the British Crown in 1725, and then recognized and affirmed by Canada in section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982. The treaties did not surrender the territory and resources but in fact recognized Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. I pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land.
