Worthless is a future dystopia worth reading! If the fantasy genre is where you often end up, or action-adventure is your preferred type of book to get lost in, then definitely pick up Against The Night, Book One: Worthless on October 26. It’s written by a Canadian author originally from Saint John, NB. (Save the date in your calendar right now so you don’t miss it)
Typically I do not find myself in the fantasy section of the book store. Except for finishing the Harry Potter series and Twilight, (yes I am a millennial and yes, I am aware that those series are just fantasy training wheels). So how did I end up speed-reading through this novel and getting completely engrossed? Well, the author, Carter J. Thompson, is a good friend of mine, and I have been lucky enough to get lost in many of the tales he has written.
I usually only see his early drafts, and I enjoy watching him brainstorm the characters and their adventures. I liked this story when he first pitched it, and now as I read the published masterpiece, I love how epic X becomes!
X, the main character’s name, is just trying to stay alive in this land of light and shadows. His enemy isn’t just the wealthy tyrants who rule the city; it’s the darkness itself. The night invites creatures with metamorphic abilities, making the simple phrase “things that go bump in the night” a genuinely horrifying reality. As his journey takes him deeper into the obscure unknown, I can’t stop reading. Since this is part 1 of a 3 part series, it seems that I will have to unwillingly wait to continue the adventure on November 30, 2021.
