Disappear into the Mist at Mispec Beach

Mispec Beach, New Brunswick on La Petite Watson

At high tide, this slim sandy beach curves narrowly against the coastline. At low tide, however, the beach triples in size. Because of its location, near-perfect sun-filled days are occasionally visited by a dense, low hanging fog. During these days, you can lay on the sand, enjoy the warm sun on your skin, and watch others fade in and out of the mists as they pass by.

Location: 15 minutes southeast of Uptown.

Note: Popular place to swim.

Walk into the Sky at Bay Shore Beach

Bay Shore Beach, New Brunswick on La Petite Watson

A combination of sandy stretches and stony shores are found at this beach. The fog and tides also hold magic here. Foggy days can create the illusion of a narrow beach here, but the retreating low tide makes it seem like the beach will never stop growing in size. The real bewitching effect happens during blue sky days. As the tide flows out, a few centimetres of salty water stay behind to linger above the sand. This creates a mirrored effect, as though you’re walking on water, as you explore the freshly exposed coastline.

Location: A 10-minute drive from Uptown.

Note: Popular place to swim

Discover Unusual Sand at Black Beach

Black Beach, New Brunswick on La Petite Watson

The name of this beach says it all! This small beach, which is covered in soft black sand, is the perfect place for picnics, scenic hikes, or just lounging by the ocean. Try your hand at creating black sandcastles or other artistic sandy masterpieces. The uncommon peppery colour also makes for some astonishing seaside photos.

Location: 24-minute drive from Uptown.

Respectfully acknowledge that I am located in the Traditional Wəlastəkwiyik land. And that this area is on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq, respectively known as Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed with the British Crown in 1725, and then recognized and affirmed by Canada in section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982. The treaties did not surrender the territory and resources but in fact recognized Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. I pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land.
