3 Saint John Beaches You Can Drive Up To

Saint John has an amazing collection of beaches to enjoy. Those beautiful water views can be seen from almost anywhere throughout the city or are only a short drive away. Three of these beaches have parking lots so close to the water, you’re almost parking on them. This makes them great for carrying picnics to the seaside or riverside. On cold rainy windy days, you can still see the water from the warmth and comfort of your vehicle.

Saint John Beaches, Saint Rest Beach

Saints Rest Beach in the Irving Nature Park

A popular beach for locals to enjoy beachcombing year-round. If the tides are right, the waves put on an excellent show! It’s easily accessible with a good amount of parking so close to the shore that you can enjoy ocean views from your car. During the summer months, the park occasionally offers geological and historical tours on the beach.

Location: On the Bay of Fundy 12 minutes drive from Uptown and is part of the Irving Nature Park.

Type: A mix of sandy areas, pebbles, and rounded beach stones.

Saint John Beaches, Dominion Park Beach

Dominion Park Beach

This sandy riverside beach offers very different experiences depending on the season. It’s popular in the summer months with lifeguards on duty (on certain days), picnic areas, playground, seasonal portable washrooms, and good-sized parking lot. In the winter, once the ice is safe, you can find a small ice fishing village here.

Location: On the Saint John River beside TimberTop Adventures; a treetop park that operates in the summer. About a 13-minute drive from uptown.

Type: Sandy in the summer, snow in the winter.

Note: Popular place to swim

Saint John Beaches, McLaren's Beach

McLaren’s Beach

If you are looking for a peaceful place to walk, this small but long beach is relatively quiet in comparison to the nearby beaches at Irving Nature Park. It has a small parking lot with an adjacent covered picnic table. It does have a small strip of sand in the middle and more appears with low tide

Location: On the Bay of Fundy about a 10-minute drive from Uptown and located just before Irving Nature Park

Type: Most of the beach is pebbles and small rocks. There is a small strip of sand in the middle and along the waterline as the tide goes out.

Respectfully acknowledge that I am located in the Traditional Wəlastəkwiyik land. And that this area is on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq, respectively known as Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed with the British Crown in 1725, and then recognized and affirmed by Canada in section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982. The treaties did not surrender the territory and resources but in fact recognized Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. I pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land.
