Obscurity: A Uniquely Captivating Uptown Saint John Shop

Obscurity is Heartbreak Boutique’s mysteriously eclectic sister store. It is filled with great gift ideas, unique decor, and many one-of-a-kind pieces. Not only will you enjoy browsing their wares with different things to discover in every corner, but the entire store is a creative art installation. From the starry floor to the three little fun feature rooms, your visit is sure to be a magical journey!

Art Attractions

When you first step into the shop be sure to look down! The floor is crafted to inspire thoughts of the milky way and a starry sky. As you make your way towards the back of the shop exploring all the delightful and curious goods, check out each little room along the way. The first room is home to the Haunted Forest, featuring a local mixed media creator with a love of nature and art. Here you will find framed artwork, stickers, jewelry, and taxidermy. The next room is a collection of metallic mannequins surrounding a staticky tv. This room gives some strong Twilight Zone vibes. The last and brightest room is a replica green bathroom. It is a tribute to the late Taco Pica and the mirror is selfie-ready!

Unique Wares

True to the shop’s name, you are sure to find novel and interesting things as you wander about. Witchy mugs, cheeky stickers, audacious keychains, are just a few of the jazzy gifts and houseware items available for purchase. They also carry many local New Brunswick products including Back River Lady’s taxidermy and insect specimens, Natural Bee Apiary’s beeswax based body balms, and other great creators!

I love it when visiting a shop is an immersive and memorable experience. Obscurity is not only a shop but a great Uptown Saint John attraction!

Bonus: They have online shopping available on their website!

Respectfully acknowledge that I am located in the Traditional Wəlastəkwiyik land. And that this area is on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq, respectively known as Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed with the British Crown in 1725, and then recognized and affirmed by Canada in section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982. The treaties did not surrender the territory and resources but in fact recognized Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. I pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land.
