Sankara Market Saint John

Where to Order International Food Online in New Brunswick

I love visiting all different types of markets! Farmer’s markets have their fresh produce and preserves. Craft markets feature handmade and uniquely designed gifts, jewelry, and apparel. Night markets offer ambiance and the convenience of not having to wake up early. My personal favourite are food markets, where you can find classic and international dishes. Sankara Market combines some of the best parts of these and delivers them directly to you! You can order any time of day and never have to leave the comfort of your couch or PJs.

Currently, this Saint John based online multicultural market offers yummy eats, handcrafted items, and some grocery items with delivery to New Brunswick cities including Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton. The delicious authentic international dishes are all prepared by local chefs with 100% of the profits going to them, customers just pay a small transaction fee for using the website’s booking service.

Personally I really enjoy this website and we have ordered the Indian Meal Box – Non-Veg Family Dinner from Sai Krishna Food Services Corporation. Our delightfully large box of food was delivered on a Sunday and included 5 heaping ready-to-eat gluten-free meals, 2 samosas, and 2 naan bread. I love Indian food (I always appreciate a good butter chicken and paneer), each dish we tried was amazing! Then, with beach season in full swing, I realized that I needed a few essentials. So I virtually visited the market again and purchased a few cute eco-friendly fair-trade nautical themed necessities including a large beach bag, a scrunchie for my hair, a light scarf (to sit on or to use as a wrap-around), and some little bags to carry sunscreen and smaller items.

COVID details: The food is always prepared in licensed kitchens (this is part of their standard regulations) and they offer contactless delivery for all their online products.

This innovative online platform was first created as a passion project by Chinweotito Atansi and co-founder Lily Lynch. They themselves started as local Saint John market vendors selling African cuisine. This experience gave them an insight into what market vendors are looking for to help them to transition to an online format. In true entrepreneurial spirit, Sankara Market has offered a variety of services, experiences, and events, all sharing their love of international culture that lives in New Brunswick (and soon expanding into Nova Scotia). My favourite event was Sankara Shares, a travel storytelling open mic event hosted at The Uptowner in Saint John where I had the fantastic opportunity to be a guest speaker.

Have you virtually visited this local online market that offers amazing international food and products?

Respectfully acknowledge that I am located in the Traditional Wəlastəkwiyik land. And that this area is on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqiyik, Peskotomuhkati and Mi’kmaq, respectively known as Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed with the British Crown in 1725, and then recognized and affirmed by Canada in section 35 of the Constitution Act of 1982. The treaties did not surrender the territory and resources but in fact recognized Wolastokuk, Peskotomuhkatik and Mi’kma'ki title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. I pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land.
